Thank you for your interest in volunteer opportunities at the First State Animal Center & SPCA.
Please fill out the volunteer application completely and submit it to the Volunteer Coordinator. (Links to PDF and MS Word documents below)
After your application has been reviewed, you will be contacted with the next orientation date if your skills meet our needs. You will be notified if there are no positions available that meet your skills, or if certain positions are on hold for a period of time. Please understand that all applications will be considered, but not all applications will be accepted.
For Youth volunteers:
Under the age of 18, a parent or guardian must attend the orientation and sign consent for minor release.
Under the age of 16, a parent or guardian must volunteer with you and fill out all required paperwork for themselves as well as their child.
Under the age of 14, we are currently not accepting any volunteers under this age. Any youth wishing to volunteer who do not meet age requirements are advised to consider a donation drive or project that will benefit our shelter animals.
For community service volunteers, an interview must be scheduled with the Volunteer Coordinator by calling 302-943-6032 ext 120, prior to being accepted and starting any training. In addition, a copy of Court issued paperwork must accompany this volunteer application or be provided at the interview. Failure to follow procedure will delay your process.
Our Mission is to prevent cruelty and suffering to animals, rescue the trapped or injured, provide emergency medical treatment and temporary housing to the homeless animals, and to reduce pet over population through various spay/neuter and education programs. First State Animal Center & SPCA is committed to placing unwanted pets into happy, healthy homes and to educate the public about responsible pet guardianship.
