Pomeranian abandoned at our front door - 01-09-2014

Most people aren't aware of the number of animals that are dumped at our front doorstep. Here's one such case. Precious, a 12 year old Pomeranian with some treatable health problems, was left at our front door sometime overnight. We don't know how long he was left out there in these freezing temperatures in a small cage.

Here is how we found him. (We brought him inside for this picture)

Precious shortly after being found by the First State Animal Center staff (Not very noticeable but Precious was shivering and drooling due to his medical condition complicated by the freezing temperatures.)

We do understand that there are times when an animal and their human can no longer remain companions, but to leave an animal, such as Precious, in severe weather conditions with temperatures below freezing is considered cruelty toward the animal and we will pursue any legal actions we can if the person or persons responsible are ever caught. If this little pup is familiar to you, please contact the shelter at 302-943-6032 or call Animal Control 24/7 at 302-698-3006 option 1.
